Opt out of receiving the rainbow
This is an idea that’s been floating around for quite a while now, but it’s never actually been implemented. While the rainbow is definitely a fun idea, and a lot of people do enjoy receiving it (such as myself), for some people it can actually be a negative thing, since it’s not very accessible and there’s no way to opt out or remove it without admin powers.
If there was a simple option in the settings menu to opt out of receiving the rainbow, it would really help people who find this an issue!! Plus it’d mean that anyone who does want the rainbow would be statistically more likely to get it, so it’s a win-win all round. I can’t really think of a reason not to implement this since it isn’t taking anything away from the original feature, and it wouldn’t take that long to code compared to some other ideas xD

Allow me to add that I’ve had the rainbow 3 times in the last two weeks now. That doesn’t seem right to me when the average number of users logged in around 19:00 is 20-30, and I haven’t even been active - I just left WoP open while doing other things. I guess I need to make a habit of logging out.
Can we at least make sure that it prioritises users who are active at the time, and overlooks users who haven’t had any activity in the last 30 minutes or so?
I haven’t added to my feedback here every time I got the rainbow since my last post, but if I had it’d be a LOT of reading. Kudos to EU leaders for manually removing it for me.

This is an accessibility issue, honestly. To some people it’s no big deal, but to people who use visual cues like color and word length to navigate the chat it’s a visual disturbance. Neurodivergent users especially are likely to find it annoying.
Personally I’d like the option to not see the rainbow at all, on anyone. I like being able to identify people in the chat quickly by name color. Rainbow names confuses me.
“Just make sure you’re not logged in at 19:00” is not a solution that works for everyone. I should not have to set a daily timer to remind me to drop everything and make sure I’m logged out from WoP at 18:55 every day. It should not be my job to put in time and effort to avoid something that is an inconvenience to me because I live with a disability. And I should also not have to give up on enjoying the WoP chat in the evening just because I didn’t log out and ended up with a visual disturbance that messes with my brain.
And there is definitely something up with the randomisation math, since the rainbow often (not always, but OFTEN) go to the same users. A few if-then rules wouldn’t hurt, for example “if user had rainbow in the last 14 days, then re-randomise”. If no one online is eligible for the rainbow, just don’t give it out at all that day.
And like stated in the original post: for those who really want the rainbow, allowing people to opt out will increase their chances of getting it. Not only do you save someone from getting annoyed, you also increase the chance that it goes to someone for whom it means a lot in a positive way.
Clearly, I feel strongly about this. It’s become a series of minor annoyances that have piled up to really piss me off over time. You can expect another rant essay from me the next time I get the rainbow too.

Just to add to the randomizer, yes, there is for sure something off with it. For a long time (like 2 years or something) I got it a total of 3x across several characters there were online pretty much every day at the time, then a few months ago It flipped and now I have had it so many times I lost count, even had a character get it 4x in a 14day span, and while I personally love having it, it does seem a bit unfair to others.
I am a supporter of the ‘reroll’, but I also think someone should get it no matter what (unless all online is opted out on their own accord, ofc)

This is a GREAT idea, it’s not everyone that likes to stick out like the rainbow tends to make you. There is a lot of people that has discomfort by displaying the rainbow, and understandable it is not everyone that likes to be put in the spotlight. I think it would be a great feature to implement in the VIP package, a tick box to choose not to want it. Then all of those that love the rainbow can have it :D

You can be sure not to login between 18.30 and 19.01 (Danish time this is) then there often will be other people who login and they will get it and you are clear of it. I don’t see the reason to wish not to get this, isn’t it just some colours?

That’s true! Personally I enjoy receiving the rainbow, but I know a few people who really don’t like it - to the point where if they get it, they won’t log in until the rainbow has passed to the next person D:
