Could Occlumency and Legilimency be up for Consideration once more?
So, originally about 8-9 years ago, Werewolves as a status used to not be a thing. This was mainly because the site was unable to decide how to properly implement the status while making it realistic and safe without people biting everyone and making an army. I submitted my proposition and the Werewolf Status was reconsidered and eventually was made a thing.
So here is my proposition for Occlumency and Legilimency, inspired by what I have seen on other WoO sites:
I think a big problem with Occlumency and Legilimency is the aspect of god-modding and meta-gaming, which makes quite a lot of sense as it is taken quite seriously on WoP. The fact that another user could abuse their status to invade another user’s mind, or to reject them can be problematic, especially given how Legilimency can be forced and can cause discomfort to resist.
On WoO EU, there is a status called forced transformation that is unique to the Dionysus cabin. It is as it sounds: the victim is forced to be an animal for a set duration of time. However, the user must ask consent in messages first.
I feel that if Legilimency and Occlumency was used with permission before implementing it in a topic, there would be a lot less issues with it, and we could avoid the concept of god-modding and meta-gaming as a whole.
But can’t it be taught?
Occlumency could be taught, but the status itself would be more or less focusing on natural-born or incredibly skilled Legilimens and Occlumens; the ones who can use the abilities by making eye-contact or naturally blocking others out of their thoughts (like Queenie Goldstein or Severus Snape)
Rules of use:
I think that as long as there are rules in place, I feel that it shouldn’t be a problem as long as the users follow them, so I came up with a series of rules that could help people understand the use of Legilimency and Occlumency better.
LEGILIMENS:
Legilimency should never be used to force oneself into other people’s mind unless asking consent, and even then, it should not be torturous.
Legilimency, despite canon, cannot be used to read another’s mind during dueling to get an advantage.
Legilimens must ask another user in owls or OOC if they can use their status on others, and they must stick to the other user’s lore and not make up memories for the other user.
Graduate Legilimens can send messages into another user’s mind with consent similar to telepathy and can use their abilities to attempt to manipulate the mind, as long as they abide by the site rules.
OCCLUMENS:
All Occlumens are allowed to block others from reading their minds.
All Occlumens can resist the Imperius Curse to some extent as long as it is realistic for their age.
Graduate Occlumens are able to create false memories and thoughts to hide their true feelings and intentions from other users.
Graduate Occlumens are also able to resist Veritaserum.
