Blocking

It makes sense to be able to block other users to limit social interactions. All pages with social interaction has the possibility of muting and hiding information from another user.

As long as the relevant student and grad staff members aren’t blocked, I’m all for this! Considering this is a social site its even more imperative for a block feature to be available, especially when there’s lots of users who may feel too shy or nervous to speak to staff members about being harassed. I know lots of people who would benefit from this. There’s the issue of only being able to block individual accounts and not the person behind them, since they can just create an alt account, but it would still make a huge difference.

I would be fine with this if Grad/Prefects/AT/Etc staff cannot be blocked, but as someone who has been harassed to the point of leaving, thrice, it would be beneficial to me to be able to block individuals who don’t know that when no means no: it means no. A lot of problems can be solved if blocking or muting were available, and one or the other person could exist on the site happily with their own coexistence without being aware of the other person’s actions. This would also avoid many bans that are situational regarding certain relationships. If you are happy with your experience, and one person ruins it, I would feel that it is more than appropriate to be allowed to block/mute an individual instead of being driven from the site until one person leaves or someone gets punished. No matter the person on site, even if you don’t get along with them, they have someone on site who cares for them. A block/mute could fix the alternative of leaving because you cannot stand the person anymore.

Hello! I understand why someone would want to block others if something has happened.
However, I’m not sure that this works well in a community like WoP or WoX.

No one who has a job should realistically be blocked, because everyone with a job performs an essential task for maintaining or developing the site. If a staff member is blocked, this can interfere with communication or day-to-day processes. From that perspective, it might make sense that as soon as someone gets a job, they are removed from all block lists automatically.

Additionally, every user can have as many accounts as they want. This makes it nearly impossible to block a specific person. You can block specific accounts, but not the individual behind them.

In my opinion, this significantly limits the effectiveness of the block function in a community like ours. But I’m curious how others see this.
